Orientation courses
Depending on placement test results, students enroll in one of these orientation courses. During the fall semester, the course will meet for 80 hours divided into 30 hours of grammar, 30 hours of conversation and vocabulary and 20 hours of culture with an exam. During the spring semester, this course will meet for 60 hours divided into 30 hours of grammar, 20 hours of conversation and vocabulary and 10 hours of culture with an exam.

Semester courses
Students must receive a C grade or better in the intermediate level during orientation to participate in this course. All students in beginner and elementary Spanish in orientation are required to take Spanish Grammar plus Spanish Speaking and Writing Skills during the semester. These students should also take 2 or 3 of the courses below given in English. Please note that course codes which contain an “E” are taught in English. Students take a minimum of 4 or maximum of 5 courses. Each course meets for 40 hours per semester. There is a minimum enrollment of 15 students per class.

Advanced Level Hispanic Studies Taught in Spanish
This program is designed by the University to provide foreign students with a thorough knowledge of Spanish culture. Courses are taught in Spanish by University professors. Students are required to have 3 years of college Spanish. Hispanic Studies students must receive a C grade or better in the advanced level during orientation to participate in this course. Course load is a minimum 4 or maximum 5 classes. Students must take a Spanish composition and conversation course. Courses meet for a total of 45 credit hours each.

Honors Program - Concentration in Islamic Studies Taught in Spanish
Students in Advanced Hispanic Studies may attend a maximum of two University of Granada courses with Spanish students. Students must be in the advanced level and take a minimum of 3 courses in the Hispanic studies program. Registration in a class is subject to admission by the University professor. Students must obtain permission for early exams from the professor upon registration since regular Spanish University exams are in February for fall and in July for spring. Classes meet 3 to 4 hours per week. The following courses have been selected to give students an insight into Islamic and Arabic culture.
